“Saturday, November 19, the University of Sioux falls held a charity black light dance from 10 pm to midnight.  Many students came out and not only enjoyed the music provided by DJ Sieffstyle, but also supported the Kids Against Hunger foundation.  Senior Dan Stee, the mastermind who put together this event, tells us what Kids Against Hunger is.”

“Kids Against Hunger is a non-profit organization here in Sioux Falls that is committed to serving the hungry.  They package meals here in Sioux Falls.  Almost a million meals come out of Sioux Falls to feed kids such as kids in Haiti.”

“USF graduate and DJ, Adam Sieff, tells us what the night is really about.”

“Tonight is really about a bunch of people coming together for a great cause.  It’s called Kids Against Hunger.  We’re just saying that there’s too many hungry in this world.  We can use are skills, abilities, or just people having fun to make a difference.  So that’s what this is about.”

“USF puts on a handful of dances throughout the year.  However, the Kids Against Hunger Black Light dance is one of the first dances for charity at USF.  Stee explains how this idea came about.”

“An entrepreneurial class here at USF called Heath Projects.  Dr. Van Zee teamed up with Kids Against Hunger to give kids an opportunity on a project.  My project is fundraising for Kids Against Hunger.  Here I am, putting on a dance, here at USF, in Java City, to raise money for Kids Against Hunger.”

“According to Stee, about 50 students attended the dance and donated a little over $150 towards Kids Against Hunger.  As far as future projects go…”

“Yeah, I definitely would love to put on more events like this.”

November; that time of year where people start dressing warmer, give up on raking, and start looking forward to the holidays. It is also a time where people take the opportunity to give their razors a break for no shave November. Senior Alex Bahney gives his perspective on no shave November.

“The last time I did no shave November was two years ago when I was a sophomore and I didn’t do it freshman year when I saw other people do it. So I knew going into my sophomore year that I should probably do it and every day just went about not shaving and didn’t know if the beard would come in or not but it came in pretty thick for awhile there. But I kept it trimmed up and stuff so that it wasn’t hard to manage. So this year I’m doing about the same thing, I already had the goatee going and stuff but to fill out the rest of it is my next goal.”

Some people participate randomly, however Bahney has some motives on why he participates.

“Probably some of the motives would be, for me it was it is getting colder outside and you want to have more hair on your face so that it keeps your face warmer. And not worried about a tan or anything like that. So you want to grow the whole beard out and keep your face warm. And I don’t know I think some girls really like the beard. They think it’s somewhat sexy, at some point I think. So growing the beard out is always a good factor in that point.”

Although many people participate in no shave November, there are those who do not. Fellow USF Senior Blake Anderson gives us his reason on why he did not participate.

“Mainly just for work reasons. I got a new job so it’s more professional for cellular companies. I don’t think they’d accept that very much if I didn’t tend to my facial hair.”

“Even though Anderson isn’t participating this year, he agrees with Bahney about girls diggin’ the beard. So fellas, take it from Bahney and Anderson and take advantage of no shave November. From USF college week, I’m Lucas Delaciuz.”
