In my article, the topic was about how technology is quickly becoming a trend the classrooms. Everything from smart boards, to computer and laptop use is rapidly increasing in classrooms. Keeping up with the dramatic change has been challenging for educators today. It’s been challenging because teachers are trying to decide what to use and also trying to stay updated with all the latest software that keeps coming out. My article lists and explains a few trends that schools should keep tabs on for the upcoming year.
One trend that is said to be evolving fast in the class rooms is the use of eBooks. I’ve never heard of these before. After finding some results on Google about eBooks, I now know they are portable electronic devices that allow you to upload files that you can, in the case of education, read and learn. It is said that these books will soon have the ability to upload full text books. This will benefit both schools and students because students will not have to carry around loads of text books around and schools will not have to worry about students damaging and losing their text books.
An up and coming trend that I find interesting is the use of personal devices. The author says that the use of personal items such as Smartphone’s and iPods will be used as an effective learning tool in classrooms. The features that these items have can be utilized to help students do research in and out of the classroom. Another advantage that these devices have to offer is that once the stimulus money runs out, schools will struggle with purchasing technological systems and software. This allows the use of these personal items to be another alternative, especially if the trend of elementary students getting these items keeps increasing. IPods and cell phones were once frowned upon by schools because of the distraction it brings to the classroom. Now they can be utilized for a better good which I find very intesting.
